Understanding 3D shapes- An Inclusive Maths Lesson

We hope that you have enjoyed your Easter Holidays, and are ready for the last term (it does scare me at how quickly it flies, yet at the same time I cannot wait for those 6 weeks!).

We wanted to share one of our maths lessons with you ready for summer from our book ‘101 Inclusive and SEN Maths Lessons. Fun Activities and Lesson Plans for P Level Learning’.

Lesson Objective:
P6: Pupils Manipulate 3D Objects

Main:
  • Set up a course in the playground with ramps and cones.
  • Split the children into teams
  • Provide each team with a large therapy ball.
  • Model to the class pushing the ball around the course. ‘Ready, steady, go!’
  • Then give each of the teams a tennis ball- can they maneuver this around the course?
  • Finally, each team have a large cardboard box.
  • At the end of the races, ask the children which was easiest, which was fastest and ask them why?

To finish, do some cool down stretches after the session.

To continue practising the skills, set the same course up at playtime, and provide tennis balls, footballs, bean bags, boxes and hockey sticks, let the children play and practice their skills.

If you try this activity with your class, send us a photo @wearetheSENco we would love to see the children manipulating 3D objects!
