London Teachers- Have you Discovered LGFL?

Did you know that nearly all of London state school teachers have access to a wealth of truly brilliant resources at London Grid for Learning (www.lgfl.net). 97% of London schools are part of this community which amongst other things provides broadband. If you don’t know the name, seek out your IT support at school and find out if you have access to this.

The best part, in my opinion, is the resources that they have available. Here are my top 5! (They can be accessed from the main home page).

  1. Busy Things: I use this for many lessons, some of my favourites at the moment are the keyboard skills games and the phonics games. They all contain great little characters, noises and visuals and I have yet to come across a child who doesn’t enjoy them!
  2. Audio Network: I would be lost without this. It provides access to thousands of pieces of music that can be searched with either a theme or genre word. They are easy to download and you can sort by beats per minute or length of song.
  3. WordQ SpeakQ can be downloaded to support children who find spelling, word finding and sentence structure hard. This would be good for many year groups, and some of the settings mean that it can be used for certain exams.
  4. eBooks by Rising Stars: Allows you to download 15 eBooks suitable for KS2 & 3. Digital books are one way of supporting reluctant readers in schools.
  5. Widget: For those of you who don’t have symbol writing programmes in school, LGFL have gained the rights to the symbols from the programme. It also has some excellent worksheet and topic resources, such as The Romans.

If you use any of these resources with your classes or find some gems that you want to share with other teachers, tweet us @wearetheSENco
