Working as a Part of a Team

Claire and I have always been passionate about ensuring good outcomes for all children in all schools. In March, we both attended the Maximising the Practice of Teaching Assistants training so that we can know deliver this brilliant evidence based training session to schools.

The Education Endowment Fund have commissioned the Maximising the Impact of Teaching Assistants (MITA) team to carry out a large Randomised Control Trial of the training and delivery of the model in schools across the country. http://maximisingtas.co.uk/projects/mita-eef-project.php

Why Claire and I find this so valuable, is that it recognises that all school staff have an important and vital role to play, and provides the tools and CPD to support schools to understand the best ways to deploy staff members and work towards good outcomes for pupils. It also highlights that a TAs role is not to be the teacher of the children with SEN or low ability, but part of a classroom team who raise standards for everyone.

If you are a teaching assistant and would like some guidance on where your skills can best be utilised in the classroom setting, this book from the team is brilliant. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Teaching-Assistants-Guide-Effective-Interaction/dp/1138856193/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492602104&sr=8-2&keywords=maximising+the+impact+of+teaching+assistants

Another really useful tool are the TA standards that were produced (but not made statutory) http://maximisingtas.co.uk/ta-standards.php
