Supporting Transition

With transitions fast approaching we need to be considering what the children are thinking and feeling and how we can support them. This could be a big transition from primary to secondary school or starting school for the first time or even leaving one class with a favoured teacher to go to the next.
The best way that I have found to support these times is to ask the children themselves. You could make a simple questionnaire that all children get or you could get a little more creative and look at sliding scales and emotions work.

A few examples include;

You are going to be starting a new school. How does this make you feel?

You will meet lots of new people. Are you looking forward to making new friends?

There are some great resources and websites available, here are a few to look at.
