Shakespeare Week & SEND

It is Shakespeare Week 12-18th March 2018 and many primary schools will be planning a focus on Shakespeare as part of the English work that they are doing.

We wanted to share some ideas so that if you have some children in your class that have SEN then they can access all the festivities of the week too!

1. London Grid For Learning (free to most London Schools) have some brilliant Shakespeare resources. Our favourite is Early Shakespeare  as it is graded so that you can choose a level of complexity that will support the children to understand some of Shakespeare's plays.

2. Creating your own multi-sensory story (or working in a phase or with your SENDCo) could support the children. Last year Kate wrote an article for Teach Primary about how you can take s story and make it simple with sensory elements. Take a look here.

3. Pinterest has some fantastic ideas for how you can teach Shakespeare to primary students.

4. Pie Corbett's Talk4Writing storytelling technique could work really well for a Shakespeare play.

If you have any suggestions as to how you have adapted your scheme of work to include all children in your class, let us know @wearetheSENco
