A Better Understanding

Many of us will work with and support children and young adults with autism over the course of our career. The National Autistic Society are saying that currently 1 in 100 people have autism. We can never understand what it is like for each individual, but reading personal accounts help us to gain a little more empathy and challenge some of our thinking.

Here are a few that we have read.

  1. Freak, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome by Luke Jackson

2. Asperger's Syndrome and Anxiety by Alis Rowe

3. The Autistic Brain by Temple Grandin

4. The Reason I Jump by Naoki Higashida and David Mitchell

5. The Independent Woman’s Handbook for Super Safe Living on the Autistic Spectrum by Robyn Steward
