Main

·         Before the lesson, go through your book and place post-it notes over any character word or familiar word to the children.
·         Ask the children to gather around for big book story time.
·         Read the first page, and act surprised that there is a word that is hidden, ask the children if anyone can guess the word.
·         Let the children come and take the post it notes of the page, and read the sentence again, with everyone joining in the missing word.

Plenary

Show the children the book that you are going to read tomorrow, but this time the title has been covered. Can anyone guess what the title might be?

Consolidation Activities

Cover up some words in some of the children’s favorite books, if they come and show you, act surprised and ask then to help you work out the missing word.
